I am Julian Knowles (Junior Liaison Officer) and I’d like to welcome you to the Junior Section.
Here at Thirsk & Northallerton Golf Club, we have a thriving Junior Section with a strong ethos of providing a family-friendly, encouraging and welcoming environment for Juniors to learn and play golf. We currently have over twenty talented Junior members and our Junior Captain for the 2020-2021 season,
The Junior Section is open to young golfers (both male and female) up to the age of 18 and has a long history of producing both District and Yorkshire County players. Albeit, we welcome Juniors of all abilities, from absolute beginners to experienced players. My aim is to ensure that all of our Juniors enjoy their golf. Additionally, I hope they enjoy being a part of Thirsk & Northallerton Golf Club, as we truly do value our Juniors (they are the future of our Club and golf!).
Alongside their enjoyment, myself and the other sections of the Club are always striving to provide alternative opportunities for our Juniors. Be that an Away Day or a social event. This will enable them to develop both their golfing ability and personal skills, whilst embedding the Junior’s knowledge of how to conduct themselves in a responsible way. Both on and off the course at home or when visiting other Clubs.
Thirsk & Northallerton’s Junior Team plays in the Harrogate District Union League against other clubs such as Oakdale G.C. and Pannal G.C. Although these matches are quite competitive, they are also very good fun and are an ideal way of meeting junior golfers from other clubs. I also like to encourage fellow local golfing Juniors to join us for our monthly medals (not only to boast about our fantastic Club!), to encourage socialising with one another in a safe and fun golfing environment.
We hold Junior competitions and events throughout the year (e.g. The Half-Term Cup, The Summer Cup, monthly medals, to name but a few) and also hold a Winter League, to keep them going over the colder months! These competitions/events integrate and/or introduce different playing formats of golf for our Juniors to enjoy (e.g. Texas Scramble, Matchplay, etc). The Juniors are invited to attend Thirsk & Northallerton Golf Club’s Junior Presentation Evening in October to collect any prizes and/or awards!
Thirsk & Northallerton Golf Club has recently been joined by two PGA Professionals (Bradley Rowntree and Josh Fox), who have fantastic ideas for our Juniors in the future.
